The recycling survey we have been carrying out has now closed.
Here are the results of the surveys carried out online and at the Village Carnival and School Summer Fair.
The online survey was carried out via this website. The offline survey was a simple tally of people in favour of the various options. The different approaches to the two types of survey mean that we must present the results independent of each other.
The Online Survey Results 93% (64 people) said they would recycle plastic at a recycling centre 81% (50 people) said they would recycle Tetrapak 77% (50 people) said they would recycle aluminium foil 92% (61 people) said they would recycle cardboard 85% (57 people) said they would recycle clothing and shoes
Where should the recycling centre be based? 43% (33 people) suggested in the Pavilion car park 42% (32 people) said they wanted better kerbside recycling
The Offline Survey Results (We do not have a total for the number of people interviewed and therefore cannot speculate percentages)
20 people said they would recycle plastic 13 said they would recycle Tetrapak 10 would recycle aluminium foil 16 would recycle cardboard 13 would recycle clothes and shoes 1 person said they wanted garden waste recycling
Where should the recycling centre be based? 6 people said better kerbside recycling 6 people said Eldons Drove rec car park / 1 person said NOT at Eldons Drove 2 said in the Pavillion car park 2 said at the Rose & Crown 2 said near the village hall 2 said at the British Legion 1 said at the school 1 said at the allotments
We also had 2 people tell us they didn't mind where they were as long as they were all together, and 1 person suggested we could have smaller bins.
Conclusions Although the offline survey results give us an idea what the people are thinking with regards to what they would recycle because we don't have a sample size it is difficult to present the results in a way that are as meaningful as the online survey. If we were to assume the sample size was around 20 people as generally we asked the same people the same questions, then the figures for recycling are still high.
However, just using the online survey results of those who completed the survey it is clear that most are prepared to recycle. As for where to put the recycling centre most would want it back where it used to be (before it moved to the Chequers) or an improved kerbside recycling scheme.
The results of both the online and offline survey will be considered by the Parish Council and a recommendation to Purbeck District Council determined.
